About Heather Nova
|
Heather made her name in Europe in the early 90's promoting a rocking live album called 'Blow' that ushered in the era of 'Chick-Rock' two years before artists like Alanis Morissette or Sheryl Crow had released albums. She is known for her emotive songs and her captivating voice.
Between the releases of her own studio albums, "Glow stars", "Oyster", "Siren", "South", "Storm", "Redbird" , all of which reached chart success in Europe, Heather released 3 live albums and a live dvd; she had hits with Swedish pop band "Eskobar" and German electronic artist "ATB"; She contributed to film soundtracks including the cult film "Gloomy Sunday" and the platinum soundtrack "I am Sam" and her songs featured on popular tv shows Dawson’s Creek and Felicity; She toured extensively in Europe and the US, playing the Lilith Fair and almost every major festival in Northern Europe as well as selling out her own 2000 seaters on her many European tours. One German newspaper dubbed her “The Queen of Indie Rock†while The Times in London recently called her “One of pop’s most enduring mysteriesâ€
She has just released her 7th album, “The Jasmine Flowerâ€, in Europe to critical acclaim. It is a collection of beautifully haunting songs recorded only with Heather, her acoustic guitar and a string quartet. Her concert , an acoustic performance, at Joe’s pub will be her first appearance in the US in 7 years.

| new album "The Jasmine Flower" out October 10th |

Hello friends,
I have some good news – on October 10th I will be releasing an album of all new material, called "The Jasmine Flower".
I played around a lot over the last 2 years with different sounds and ideas, but in the end I decided I wanted to make my most stark record to date, so I recorded the songs with just me and my guitar. Afterwards we added a string quartet to a few tracks.
I have a home studio here in Bermuda, but when I was ready to put down the tracks, the whole thing started breaking down – first the mixing desk then the computer itself died. I was very "in the zone" to record and didn't want to wait what could be weeks for all new gear to arrive, so I decided it was a lesson in simplicity– I realized I could still record and mix the album on my solar powered laptop. So there you have it – that's all you need to make a great sounding album. Sun and songs.
I think the songs must be good, because most of them make me feel pretty uncomfortable, which is a sign that I have plumbed the depths and dug for truth, no matter how unsettling.
I will also be including a bonus CD - a concert recording from my last tour.
I hope you enjoy the album, and I hope to see you on tour.

I wanted to share with you this song I wrote a couple of months ago. It's called "Higher Ground" and it was released as part of 7th Sky magazine's recent edition about emotion. The song was inspired by an article I read by humanitarian Matt George. He was a surfer who turned to saving lives after the tsunami in 2004. I was impressed and humbled by what he does and wrote the song as a tribute to him.

I've been searching a long time to make our Heather Nova Online Magazine more accessible for people with dyslexics, people with learning disabilities, people with English as a second language, elderly with impaired vision etc.
Than one day I found a great service on the internet, provided by ReadSpeaker and I decided to contact this company to see if it truly works with as result a 'talking Online Magazine', if you click on the 'SayIt' picture you see on top of each page.
