THE C SHAPE
 

Here is your typical C chord.


 
 

And here is a C shape G chord, way up high on the neck.

This is a tough one to barre and slide around, but you’ll get it after awhile. And after you get it, you’ll find that it has its uses. It’s also a good shape to know all up and down the neck for soloing, because there are good solo lines that come from this chord shape. The name of this chord comes from the note on the fifth string or second string. When I think of this chord, I usually think of the note on the fifth string, so if I was playing the C shape G chord shown above I would say I was playing the C shape chord at the 10th fret.
